Onion chutney / ulli chutney or chammandhi
Ingredients
Onions - 1 cup
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Red chillies - 4
Gingali oil - 1 tsp
Tamerind extract - 1/2 tbsp
Salt - to taste
Method
In a Kadai, add oil and onions.
Cook the onions well and add red chillies.
Now once the onions turned pink, turn off the flame.
Add this onions and chillies to mixie jar.
Add coconut and salt to it. Grind coasely.
Now add Tamerind extract and grind nicely.
Convert this chutney into the serving bowl.
Note:
This is one of the chutney I learned from my maternal grandmother (Thaila) from Kerala who runned a hotel. This chutney enhances the taste of main dish. You can serve this with idly, dosai, vadai, bonda, bajjis, idiyappam, uthappams, kuzhipaniyaram, Phulka, and bread too.
